The "2023 Barrier-Free Universities Awards" found their owners.

Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş and Uşak University Accessible Unit Coordinator  Faculty Member  Dr. Şule Gucyet attended the “2023 Barrier-Free Universities Award Ceremony” organized by the Council of Higher Education.

The awards were given to the universities by Erol Özvar, the President of the Higher Education Board, at the “2023 Barrier-Free Universities Award Ceremony” organized by the Higher Education Council.

Prof. Dr. Özvar noted that in order to encourage the creation of a barrier-free ecosystem in universities, Barrier-Free University Awards have been given in two different fields, namely “Accessible University Flags” and “Accessible Program Awards” since 2018. Özvar also stated that the Barrier-Free University Flags have "Accessibility in Space" expressed with an orange flag, "Accessibility in Education" expressed with a green flag, and "Accessibility in Socio-Cultural Activities", expressed with a blue flag, to the relevant programs of universities that provide accessibility to different disability groups. He explained that he was awarded the "Disabled Program Medal".

-295 flags to 56 universities-

Özvar announced the universities that received awards according to this year's evaluation results. Stating that a total of 1,091 applications were made from 97 universities this year, Özvar stated that 56 universities were entitled to receive a total of 295 flags, 152 of these flags are "orange flags" given to accessibility in the venue, 92 are "green flags" given to accessibility in education, and 51 are "blue flags" given to accessibility in socio-cultural activities, Özvar presented his awards to the university rectors participating in the ceremony.

-Uşak University has added a new one to the awards it has received for its efforts to become an "Accessible University".-

Attending the ceremony held at YÖK, Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş, in his statement on the subject, stated that Uşak University was again entitled to the unobstructed flag awards, as in previous years.

Rector Savaş: “Uşak University is among the 20 universities that stand out in receiving the flag award.”

Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş stated that Uşak University has received a total of 19 barrier-free flag awards since 2019, "Uşak University has added a new one to the awards it has received for its efforts to become an 'Barrier-Free University'. This year, we once again received 6 Barrier-Free Flag Awards at the '2023 Barrier-Free Universities' Awards of YÖK. We were among the 20 universities that came to the fore in acquiring a flag. Uşak University took its place among 20 universities with 6 flags. We have been working for barrier-free education and barrier-free access since the first day we took office. We crown the rewards of these efforts with the awards we have received in the last 5 years. I would like to thank all our staff, especially our Accessible Unit Coordinator, for their outstanding efforts.”

Rector Savaş stated that they achieved their goal of 'Accessible University' one by one, removing the obstacles in front of the dreams of individuals with disabilities is their primary goal. Prof. Dr. Savaş added that they work for barrier-free learning and unhindered access in every physical structure of Uşak University, they will continue their accessibility work without interruption from now on.
