Youth Takes the Pulse of Agriculture in Konya with the UNIDES Project

The “Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture Society” at Uşak University organised a three-day technical and cultural trip to Konya as part of the “Steps For The Agriculture Of The Future” (SFAF) project, supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Uğur Yıldırım, Advisor to the Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture Community at Uşak University, and organised by Community President İbrahim Çelik and Project Coordinator Sude Cangür, the students gained technical knowledge about the agricultural industry and experienced Konya's historical and cultural riches first-hand.

Technical Visits and Practical Experiences

On the first day of the trip, which was part of the UNIDES Project, the group visited the Çatalhöyük Archaeological Site and Museum, one of the oldest settlements in the world dating back to the Neolithic Period. They then visited the Çumra Facility of Konya Sugar Factory, one of Turkey's largest agricultural-industrial organisations. Students had the opportunity to observe firsthand how modern agricultural technologies are integrated into industry and gain detailed information.

On the second day of the trip, the students made technical visits to Safa Tarım, Sector and Şakalak Tarım Makineleri, leading companies in the field of agriculture and industry. Thanks to these visits, they had the opportunity to see the production stages of agricultural machinery, learn about the agricultural pesticide and fertiliser sector, and gain practical information about R&D work and agricultural technologies.

On the third day, the group visited the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden, Turkey's first tropical butterfly garden, followed by a visit to Sille Village (Sille Neighborhood), famous for its historical structures dating back to the Byzantine period, rock-carved churches, and mosques. Later in the day, the group visited the tomb of Mevlânâ Celâleddîn-i Rūmî, learning about his philosophy of tolerance, Mevlevi culture, and intellectual world. Finally, they toured the Kyoto Japanese Park.
