Civil Activist Dr. Rukiye Demir Salhiya talked about her experiences in Gaza

Uşak University Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, and Living Ideas Community organized an event titled “The Struggle of Resistance in Gaza”. Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Osman Birgin and Prof. Dr. Lütfi Özav, academicians and students attended the conference.

In the conference held at Mustafa Kemal Paşa Amphitheater, Civil Activist Dr. Rukiye Demir Salhiya talked about her experiences in Palestine and the Palestinian people's view of the struggle.

The program started with the reading of Mehmet Akif Inan's poem Masjid al-Aqsa.

In the opening speech of the event, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Birgin gave information about the activities that Uşak University carried out to publicize the experiences of the Palestinian people and their struggle. Prof. Dr. Birgin said that they organized a march with the participation of three thousand people and that they held Spring Events in Support of Palestine between May 11-16.

Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences Prof. Dr. Ali Yılmaz emphasized the importance of fighting for Palestine.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Gültekin, Director of the Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center, started her speech by saying, “The Palestinian cause is the cause of all Muslims and all people with a conscience” and added, “Being a Muslim requires standing by our oppressed brothers and sisters. We will make every effort we can for Palestine. We will try to make our voices heard and raise awareness through actions, boycotts and conferences.”

Civil Activist Dr. Rukiye Demir Salhiya, who was the first international student to go to Palestine for her master's degree and one of the civilians evacuated by Turkiye during Ramadan, talked about her experiences during her stay in Palestine. Having spent more than 7 years in the region and witnessed many conflicts and bombardments, Dr. Demir Salhiya emphasized the loyalty of the Palestinian people to the region and the reasons why they do not leave the region despite all the difficulties they face.

Civil Activist Dr. Rukiye Demir Salhiya said that by studying in Gaza, she aims to break the blockade imposed by Israel on Palestine through education. She stated that she completed her master's and doctorate degrees in Gaza and that the education she received here provided her with a broad perspective to synthesize the West and the East. Dr. Rukiye Demir Salhiya underlined that Palestinians see the land they live in as a relic of the ummah and therefore they do not think of leaving it, and emphasized that Israel's attacks are brutal. Civil Activist Dr. Rukiye Demir Salhiya stated that people are struggling under bombs, Israel is committing war crimes by deliberately killing women and children regardless of the target and ignoring even international law, and that her house was bombed twice during her time in Palestine. She emphasized that the people living in the region are trying to live under very difficult conditions, that they have many difficulties even in accessing basic necessities such as water, food, etc., that they do not complain about their situation despite the fact that they have lost many of their friends, loved ones and relatives, and that they are homeless, and that the Palestinians' beliefs are very strong.

In her presentation, Civil Activist Dr. Rukiye Demir Salhiya gave information about Israel's occupation policy and the reasons for its brutal attitude towards people.
