Uşak University Energy Environment Sustainability Application and Research Center held a conference titled "Evaluation of the Removal of Antibiotics from Wastewater by Photocatalytic Process" at the Sibel Hişmanoğlu conference hall of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

 In the conference, Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Ciğeroğlu from Uşak University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Chemical Engineering gave important information.

Speaking about antibiotics and their effects, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ciğeroğlu explained the types of antibiotics used in the past and today. Stating that due to the frequent use of antibiotics in areas such as health and animal husbandry from the past to the present, antibiotics are mixed into wastewater, and due to the use of these waters in agriculture, antibiotics are passed to agricultural products, and as a result of the consumption of these products by humans, antibiotics are passed back to humans, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ciğeroğlu emphasized that if this circulation continues continuously, it may cause antimicrobial resistance in humans. 

Pointing out that wastewater should be treated from antibiotics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ciğeroğlu also mentioned that various methods are used for this treatment process. Stating that the treatment process with photocatalytic process is one of these methods, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ciğeroğlu pointed out that the photocatalytic process is a cheap and environmentally friendly method. In her presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ciğeroğlu also talked about how the photocatalytic process method has been used in the treatment of wastewater from past to present and the problems encountered and the solution of these problems. Continuing her presentation by talking about the results obtained from these studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ciğeroğlu ended her presentation by mentioning the necessity of treating antibiotics from wastewater with photocatalytic process and similar methods.

The conference ended after the questions asked by the faculty members and students were answered.
