Chairman of the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar visited Uşak University on 4th August and gave a conference on 'Quality Assurance in Higher Education'.

Visiting Rector Prof. Dr Ekrem Savaş in his office before the conference,  YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Kar received information about Uşak University and its quality studies and signed the honor book.

The conference held at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Congress and Culture Center was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Kenan Taş and Prof. Dr. İdris Kabalcı, Quality Coordinator staff, academic and administrative staff.

Rector Savaş: “Our goal is to get YÖKAK Institutional Accreditation at the end of the year”

In his opening speech, Rector Savaş gave information about the Institutional Accreditation Program (KAP) studies of Uşak University and stated that they are included in the Institutional Accreditation Program carried out by YÖKAK this year and that their goal is to obtain institutional accreditation at the end of the year. Underlining that this process is very important for the university, Prof. Dr. Savaş stated that as Uşak University, they acted by building the ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System in accordance with the Program Accreditations and most importantly the Institutional Accreditation Program of the Higher Education Quality Board in order to support the quality movement.

Prof. Dr. Savaş, “Quality; It is a never ending process, not a destination with an end point. If we want to increase the quality in every field, we must act not by criticizing the problems we see, but by taking action and striving to correct them. In this sense, I support our team, who put forth their efforts to increase the quality of our university, and I find the contributions of our academicians and administrative staff to these studies with their efforts to create in terms of quality important. We will work hand in hand with all our employees to increase the quality.  I would like to thank our YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar once again for his honor at our university.”

YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar, in his presentation titled Quality Assurance in Higher Education, “The Concept of Quality, Stakeholders' Views on Quality, Quality Assurance in Higher Education, Quality Assurance Goals, Quality Assurance Systems and Options, YÖKAK's Quality Assurance Framework, What is YÖKAK? What does it do? How does he do it?” addressed the issues.

YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Kar: “We evaluate universities according to international quality standards.”

Explaining that YÖKAK, which was established as a commission under YÖK in 2015, has been working independently since 2017, Prof. Dr. Kar gave information about the work of YÖKAK. Stating that YÖKAK, which evaluates higher education institutions according to international quality standards, accredits universities over 1000 points, Prof. Dr. Kar said, "We evaluate leadership, management and quality as 300 points, education and training as 400 points, research and development as 200 points, and social contribution as 100 points. We give full accreditation to universities with 650-1000 points for 5 years.We give conditional accreditation for 2 years to the institutions with 500-649 points . We reject institutions with a score of 0 to 499. These institutions cannot apply before 2 years pass." 

Prof. Dr. Kar: “The criteria under the title of education should be developed with student-centered approaches.”

Stating that it is important to expand the training of trainers and increase their number, and emphasizing that the criteria under the title of education and training should be developed with student-centered approaches,  Prof. Dr.Kar added that the student-centered approach should be well perceived and applied accordingly.

 Noting that all stakeholders of the university should work together for quality, Prof. Dr.Kar said, "I would like to thank the Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş and the staff of the Quality Coordinatorship, who worked and were involved in the process to accredit the university. I wish success to all Uşak University staff and students in their studies. ” 

YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Kar answered questions after his speech. Event ended with a plaque of appreciation to  Chairman of YÖKAK  Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar presented by Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Savaş.
