A panel discussion on the topic of the '27 May Coup' was broadcasted live on May 26th via the Usak University YouTube channel. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. Sadık Sarısaman, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Literature at Usak University. The participants included Prof. Dr. Filiz Çolak, the Director of the Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Research and Application Center at Usak University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Feyza Kurnaz Şahin, a faculty member in the Department of History at Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Science and Literature. They provided a detailed account of the 27 May Coup, from the rise of the Democratic Party to the events that took place on Yassıada.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Feyza Kurnaz Şahin presented on the process leading up to the 27 May Coup. She began her speech by discussing the process that brought the Democratic Party to power. Emphasizing the need to examine the ten years preceding the coup to understand it, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kurnaz Şahin explained the impact of domestic and international developments during the Democratic Party's tenure in Turkey and how the coup unfolded.

Prof. Dr. Filiz Çolak conducted a presentation on the Yassıada trials and the events that followed. She shared the difficulties and experiences of Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, President Celal Bayar, and other members of the Democratic Party, including female parliamentarians, during their time on the island. Prof. Dr. Çolak highlighted the challenging process that the prisoners faced on the island and noted that the trial itself took a long time to commence. She emphasized that all the activities of the Democratic Party during their time in power were judged during the Yassıada trials.

Moderator Prof. Dr. Sadık Sarısaman concluded the discussion by expressing his wishes for the prevention of future coups in Turkey, the internalization of democracy with all its institutions and rules, and the smooth functioning of democratic processes.
