Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhan Solmaz, who started his speech with the Nevruz prayer recited in Central Asia, explained the terminological meaning of Nevruz and how it has been celebrated throughout history. Stating that it is not a coincidence that the new day was chosen on March 21, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Solmaz said, “The fact that the day and night are equalized, and it is a time when nature warns us has been effective in choosing March 21 as the new day. In the Turkish epic tradition, the exit from Ergenekon, the new year in the Twelve Animal Turkish Calendar, the Jalali calendar prepared in the time of the Great Seljuks, the Akkoyunlu and the Ottoman state, Nevruz was celebrated as the first day of the new year.”
In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhan Solmaz also talked about the traditions of celebrating Nevruz in different parts of the world and the preparations made before the celebration.
