Informatics is a department which analyzes how the knowledge, which is indispensable part of human’s life in every aspect, is produced, transferred and used.

   It analyzes the nature of knowledge in various forms like pictures, images, texts and statistics and its relation to the idea. For this, it is essential to acquire, classify, save and use the knowledge when it is necessary and guide it to the related units.

   Informatics takes place in library studies, in terms of organization of knowledge and classification; and it takes place in computer and communication field in terms of transmission of knowledge. Informatics includes that how the knowledge is used in organizations and producing policy and what the economical value is etc.

   Informatics subjects producing knowledge systems for these purposes. First of all, it aims to produce practical and compete knowledge systems to set what is the information system to be produced, how it is designed and later with what this design will be made real.

   Informatics, as an occupation, aims to gain professional skills which are necessary to improve and use the information and information systems.

Reason for Foundation of Department

   Education in use of basic information technology and software developing platform is quite insufficient. Institute of Informatics was founded as a part of Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1997 to supply deficiencies in this area. Higher Education Council declared the decision in foundation of Informatics Department which is a department for supporting to disciplines that are related to rector ship and make use of METU Informatics Institute master programme to train staff for these departments in order to supply and to coordinate the lessons related with common computer education among universities.

   The foundation of Informatics department which is a part of rector ship to make necessary arrangements and organizations to teach basic technology subjects to the all students of university and high technology institutes and to coordinate or carry out the lessons actively in accordance with numbered 2547 law’s numbered 2860 law varied clause 7/d – 2,

   This department should coordinate and carry out the lessons mentioned below as an obligatory and optional subject in accordance with numbered 2547 law’s numbered 2880 law varied clause 7/e,

   It was decided to found Informatics Department as a part of Usak University on decision of Higher Education Executive Council to found Informatics Department in universities to coordinate and carry out the lessons actively and to make the necessary arrangements to be able to teach basic information technology subjects to the whole students of university and higher technology institute.

Aims of Department

-To make necessary organizations and arrangements for computer education.

-To supply execution and coordination of computer lessons.

-To supply internet Access to our students apart from the lesson in the laboratories.

-To supply teaching computer subjects and using basic information technology to all students.

-To provide students’ and staff’s attending to the necessary certificate programs.

-To organize the use of computer laboratory which has already been founded in our university.

-To provide coordination and carrying out the communal lessons’ exams in all departments of university when it is necessary.

-Informatics department subjects depending on related departments’ weekly course programs’ appropriateness will be arranged in a way that our students can attend especially in the first year of their education or at last second year; thus, providing use of computer more consciously and experiencedly for kinds of works (graduation projects, course/experiments reports writing, graphical mathematical analyzes, statistics and using internet Access etc.)During their education to benefit from our university’s computer facilities more effectively during rest of their education.

Target of Department

Target 1: Our department will produce Project to raise the level of information and use of data processing technology and new technological developments will be taken into consideration while doing this.

Target 2 : Increase the number of people who benefit from basic data processing Technologies with the requested aim in university also with renovation of network infrastructure.

Target 3 : To contribute to take our university into one of the our countries’most important universities in which data processing technologies are used in maximum.

Target 4 : Our department will carry out its present mission not only for university but also partly for our city and it will have efficient works to provide desired university-city corporation institution in our city.Thus education programmes will be set to raise the use of data processing technology and the level of knowledge in our city.

Target 5 : To contribute to the number of people who use data processing Technologies and to form basic data processing technology experince in our city.

Target 6 : Our primary target will make our university a model unit in our country and university.

Target 7 : In social and academic platforms like fair and symposium,in which data processing technology are presented and explained, will be participated.
